Agenda Items:
1) TUESDAY NUTRITION BREAK
  • Ehrlich: Granola bars passed out during to allow kids to choose when they want to snack. Pass out during RooTube. Blueberry loafs will get crushed in students’ backpacks.
  • Carmen: Working on the idea. Maybe a 2-week time frame. Thinks campus is cleaner during lunch periods. Asked students what they would like.
  • Croom: Easier with one option.
  • Lewis: Litter continues to happen even with education about it. Thinks designated period is better to combat litter.
  • Spaniol: Give trial period. If litter is a problem, then a designated time is established.
  • ASB: Thinks students will volunteer to pick up trash. Another student says the litter problem has improved. Consequences for littering also suggested, like cleaning up. Seems hunger happens around 3rd and 4th periods. Blueberry loafs are a good option.
  • Bernardino: Ask students if they want a snack. Extras are passed out to those who want it.

2) NORMS FOR COMPUTER ROOM
  • Spaniol: (On behalf of Gates) Reports problems with the condition of labs after use (papers on trash, seats out of place, damaged mice, etc.). Gates suggests having a checklist to report problems. Students would be expected to leave things as they found them. Thinks it’s good possibility to have students provide a service. Gates plans on having a monthly check.
  • ASB: Supports the clean up process. Designate a period of time at the end of lab for the checklist. Get ASB to inspect routinely and get community hours.
  • Croom: Good policy for the Safe & Civil Schools committee.
  • Ehrlich: Have it ready for Tuesday’s staff meeting. Each student needs to take responsibility.
  • Hernandez: Has issue with Deep Freeze affecting saving to servers.
  • Jimenez: Only Mr. Schonian is there at the end of the day. Suggested he would notice any discrepancies.
  • Carmen: Include him in the end-of-day inventory.

3) REPORT OUT "REPORT CARD COMMENTS" COMMITTEE
  • Abts: A-T comments are to be used for semester grades only. G and S are very similar comments, suggested combining these two. P-T have to be school-wide comments. School testing version of Zangle showed all codes applicable to semester (per district Zangle personnel).
  • Ehrlich: How long would any modifications take to show up?
  • Croom: Leave as is for the time being. Argued parents will not know the subtleties between these codes.
  • Lewis: Argues “meeting proficiency” and “reaching standards” not the same thing.

4) ELECTIVES AND LANGUAGE B TO BE MADE IBMYP COMPLIANT
  • Carmen: Recommending submitting a proposal to rename courses to align them better with the IB program. A committee has been assigned. Counseling also revamping their program.

5) ROUNDTABLE TIME LIMIT AND CONTENT
  • Jay: Limit to notices only. Please get agenda items in ASAP (no later than the end of day the Monday prior to meeting).
  • Donovan: Elective department concerned with field trips. Want advance notice in order to know when to catch up with teaching. Coordinate field trips. If trips are always B days it affects the teaching, same with A days. Alternate days would be better.
  • Jay: Suggests placing Donovan’s concerns on the agenda. GATE: January 28 fundraiser at Souplantation (Point Loma location).
  • Abts: 6th grade camp 1/29, return Friday at 1:30 pm. Electives are affected across both prep periods. 3 more classes getting dig experiences.
  • Christensen:
  • Ocampo: Will unveil new counseling plan. Putting more groups together. Numbers on behavior improvement. 7th graders improving compared to previous year. Figuring out ways to not affect class time as much.
  • Harvey: February 1st Jump Rope reminder.
  • Lewis: Trisha Baker back from maternity leave.
  • ASB: Heard about district cutting 6th Grade Camp this year. Writing a letter to school board.

6) PARKING LOT
  • Fieldtrip concerns for electives (A/B rotation) – checking master calendar
